Sybil in her wedding dress B

Beautiful! And a perfect reminder for the official S/T Smut Day! 6/7/13!!!!

June, 7th 1919

Sybil gazed affectionately at the dazzling band Mary had handed her.  It was worn by her mother on her wedding day, by her grandmother and great grandmother.  It was a Crawley tradition.

But Sybil wasn’t a Crawley; she was a Branson.  And today it would be official.

With a gentle smile she quietly handed the expensive jewelry back to Mary.  “Thank you,” she answered her sister’s expectant and confused face.  “But Tom’s mother and sister have made me something to wear today.”

Mary’s eyebrow went up.  “Are you certain? I seem to remember a tiny girl getting into a big trouble for sneaking off with this and wearing it in the garden.”

Sybil’s smile grew at the memory.  “I did get quite the talking to that day.”

“I my recollection proves correct, you claimed you needed it to wed the grounds keeper’s son,” Mary added, her own lips beginning to curve upward.  “I suppose we should have know then.”

Sybil gave her sister a reproachful look, but one that clearly had no weight behind it as her eyes danced merrily.  “I suppose you should have.”

Mary’s long white fingers hesitated against the hard, sharp edges of the headpiece. Sybil eyed the movement, a lump forming in her throat.

“My darling, it’s your wedding; wear what you want,” Mary pressed, offering the family heirloom once again, seeing Sybil’s eyes growing glassy.

Sybil shook her head.  “I confess as a girl I dreamed of wearing this one day.  And I dreamed of my father walking me down the aisle, and my mother smiling at me reassuringly.  But those are relics of a young girl who didn’t understand what it meant to truly and deeply love and to be so loved in return.”

Sybil stood, placing a gentle kiss against her sister’s cheek.  “Thank you for bringing it, and remembering how important it use to be to me.  But the man standing at the end of the aisle is the most important part now.  I want to wear what his family made for me.  My reality is so much better than my dream.”

Mary nodded, her simple acceptance more telling than perhaps she would have liked.  “It is unfair my darling,” Mary quipped.  “To know you look beautiful no matter what you wear.”

Sybil scoffed, but couldn’t hide her happiness.

This is lovely, Piper!  Getting the ideas flowing already….

OMG, I really need to get back fully to reading S/T fanfics! :D Piper this ficlet is very lovely. ^_^

In response to all the lovely support I got from this post , I have created this sister blog to The Branson Baby Bump Shrine (especially since the stork delivered the babe ;) ). I intend to make this blog a happy one, free of upsetting gifs/graphics of that-moment-we-all-cried.

We all cope with grief in different ways, so I hope that this blog can offer you all some comfort and bring you back happy memories.

This blog will be dedicated exclusively to Miss Sybil Branson and anything related to her.

Enjoy!

So, the preview for 3x04. Why should I be worried when we were spoiled the outcome of this situation some time ago?

So, Tom arrives at Downton in shock and is crying. Robert yells at him. Sybil is in Dublin, on the phone, telling them that she’s all right. What to make out of it, then?

Don’t get me wrong, I am SO excited for the baby, but Sybil was so excited to see the world, have a career and be free from the constraints of Downton- that’s a huge reason she fell in love with Branson. Now she’s having a baby, and we all know it’s not possible to do…

You don’t understand Sybil’s character at all.

Firstly, family planning wasn’t that popular back then. Married couples usually “let the nature take it course” and let nature decide when and how many children they would have unless they already had a bunch or a woman had health problems.

Secondly, we KNOW that Sybil is happy about this baby from her letter to Cora. She refers to her pregnancy as “joys of joys” and writes that because of it, this is “the most glorious morning” despite the merciless raining.

Additionally, if Sybil wants to do something new (eg. go back to work or charity work or taking up a new skills , maybe self-taught?) Tom would support her 100%, let’s remember that Tom’s number one priority is Sybil’s happiness ( remember that line in s2ep1 “I will devote every waking minute to your happiness”) .Other examples to support this, is that Tom willing goes back to DA in s3 for M/M wedding and despite the initial cold reception, Tom behaved impeccably well in the face of so much hostility and rude remarks. (especially, the spike-drinking incident) Tom’s behavior showed him to be the better man. The only reason Tom was willing to go through that hell was for Sybil’s happiness, he knows and respects that Sybil loves her family very much and that it is also important for them to somehow reconcile with her family so that they can always come back , especially after the baby is born.

I’m not even getting started on why having a child does not prevent you from having a career/seeing the world. There had been some cases of married and with children women who did work.

Sybil is not an idiot - she knew that marriage meant also starting the family. But she wants to have a family with Tom. Sybil is also a caring person and enjoys taking care of someone (nursing!). Having a family is also a kind of work. And if she had remained an aristocrat, she would not have been able to take care of her child and home herself. Nannies and governesses would have taken care of her child’s well-being and upbringing.

The statement about Sybil falling in love with Tom because she wanted a career and freedom is ridiculous. She loved him even before she started working! I suppose that you misunderstood the famous JF quote from the DVD? So here you go:

Due to the fact that the most misunderstood JF’s quote (that it suits Sybil to have a statement of rebellion in her life choice) appears again in the Chronicles, I think it’s time to explain what Fellowes really meant here.

JF says here what differs Sybil from other people who were attracted to members of another class – her rebellious mind. Thanks to it, she’s able to act on her feelings in such a way that she marries her lover, not merely has a steamy affair with him. Her rebellious mind helped her to ultimately see that their relationship may work as well as to change her lifestyle completely and adopt successfully to those new conditions. Thanks to her rebellious mind again, Sybil can appreciate the lifestyle Tom offers her and feel satisfied while living this life. Her choice is not only a choice of a romantic partner, but also a choice of a totally new lifestyle. This does not make her love any less deep - it is actually a proof that she’s truly in love and wants to spend her whole life with this man, at the same time feeling good in the lifestyle he offers her. By becoming Tom’s wife, Sybil did not only change her marital status, but also completely changed her class and way of living. She wouldn’t have done so if she had had only an affair with Tom or had given him up despite her feelings for him.

Jessica Fellowes then mentions that Sybil “might challenge this view” and that she “likes to believe that it’s love what motivates her”. This is what is important for Sybil, the character. She does not think about the wider context her creator puts her in or about the message he wants to send across. No, in Sybil’s mind the only fact that matters is that she gave up her previous life in order to be with the man she loves. She doesn’t think about why she was able to make such a decision in contrast to other people who fell for members of another class, and she (obviously ) doesn’t think about why this choice suits her screen persona and storyline. Sybil sees her choice as motivated by love, though she admits that her new lifestyle suits her and that she took also this factor into consideration when she was making her decision.

Downton Abbey Series 3 Trailer

I like how all these kisses suit the couples’ personalities (or it may just be me).

Edith and Anthony’s is very soft and tender, but more reserved and quiet. Sybil and Tom’s is quite fervent and intense. Mary and Matthew’s is very sensual, but full of desire and longing.
